Remote start attempts 3 times then stops.

My 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee Larado has an alarm / remote starter. I didn't use the remote start at all over the summer and when I tried it last week, the engine turns over, the Jeep (seems to) start, then stops. This happens 3 times, then quits. I have no problem starting it manually, all else is fine. Is there a setting for the alarm or locks? Configuration or key sequence? I'm thinking it must be something simple I'm overlooking. Any ideas?

Was thinking of starting a new thread, but you have nailed my problem on the head... my remote has worked fine until a few weeks ago, I have thought that it may be a weak battery - changed it ...but to no luck.
have NO problem starting with the key;

have you found a cure??
looking at the date of your post looks like noone has had even a clue to this???
that's a bit hard to believe!

Depending on what brand of remote starter you have some require unpluging the connections to the remote module and plugging them back in. This resests the module. Idont know if this will help you might be worth a try.

Turns out, it was something quite simple. The control box for the alarm / remote is located under the steering column just above the emergency brake foot pedal. On the control box is a 3 position switch. This switch monitors one of 3 sensors to determin if the vehicle has started. One monitors tach, one monitors vacuum and the 3rd position is for smart start. Anyway, I must have hit the control box with my foot, or it might have shifted and moved the switch position to the wrong attribute to monitor. The signal that the engine was started was never true, so it tries 3 times then stops. My system needs to be in the 3rd position for tach sensing. Once I moved it, I've had no problems.
