Question 96 Roadmaster auto lever not working

My folks have a 96 roadmonster that looks like its been lifted 6 inches in the rear. I didnt know it had an auto leveling system but apparently its stuck in the up position in the rear and it is completely raked. Does anyone know about this system and what could be wrong? Someone said a compressor but it seems like it would be bottomed out rather than 'up' if it was a compressor... Thanks a million

Re: 96 Roadmaster auto lever not working

The two main possibilities that I can think of offhand are: 1) The height sensor lever is dicsonnected; 2) The exhaust solenoid is disconnected or defective. Hope this helps.

Re: 96 Roadmaster auto lever not working

look at this thread below. I have been in the same position as you with the susspention. Don't give up! It can be easily fixed and it is well worth it. Use ONLY origional parts though!!! the dump valve is in the compressor head below the left headlight behind the bumper.

Smile thank you

I removed the level sensor from above the rear diff. and I heard the compressor cycle as I moved the lever up, but no action when I moved it down. I will try replacing the sensor tommorow and take a look at the dump valve in the front.
Thanks for your quick replies.. This is my first post as a member and I love the site!

Re: 96 Roadmaster auto lever not working

it's probably not the sensor. don't waste yer cash. go to the compressor head and look for a signal when the sensor is calling for a lower. or try to energise the dump valve indipendantly to see if it lets the car down. also you should check to see if the dump valve coil is good by ohming it out and testing it to ground. sorry if this infois too late

Re: 96 Roadmaster auto lever not working

ps. the smart money is on the dump valve being bad. post your findings please. I'm in the middle of moving house so the service books are a little out of reach, if I had them I could offer more info.
