WHat bikes Don't kill Insurance.

I am 21 years old, my insurance just got lowered on my car and I am looking to get a bike, I was looking at the Suzuki Katana 600 since it is very cheap buke $6k new and looks cool. Well I called on an insurance quote and they wanted $350 A MONTH>>>> WOW.

anyways, what is a good bike that looks nice and is streetish but does not cost an arm and a legg for the bike OR insurance, looking for a Street type bike, but I might have to end up getting a cruiser type.

Thanks for any info

Re: WHat bikes Don't kill Insurance.

look at a bike that isn't a full fairing bike. also, look more towards the sport touring line. i'm actually looking to sell a Bandit600S, that needs a carb clean, and thats it. its a good starter bike too, it was actually my second bike. insurance on this bike cost me 760/year for full coverage, and that was when i was 20. basically i haven't ridden the bike in about a year, and its been collecting dust in my garage. newer tires, newere chain and sprockets, solid bike.

Re: WHat bikes Don't kill Insurance.

If insurance cost is the issue don't get a new bike. i don't know about your state but here if the bike is being financed it has to be fully insured which is costly, otherwise you only need liability. if you can afford it buy the bike outright, don't finance it, then you can get less expensive insurance. i got an insurance quote on a used 96 suzuki RF600 for like $820 for the whole year.

Re: WHat bikes Don't kill Insurance.

yeah, if u want to save money, get a used bike. u don't have to worry too much if it gets damage, and u don't have to pay them high full coverage premiums majority of the insurance companies charge. i recently got my first bike, its a 1997 suzuki gsxr-750 and is only paying 143 a year for liability. taking the msf course will give u a discount from some insurance companies too, im suppose to get a %20 discount off mine. of course if u want ur bike new, then u have to pay the price.

Go used, like everyone else said. Also, look for "naked sport bikes" like the Suzuki Bandit 600, Suzuki SV650 (S), or (like my stupid bike) Yamaha Seca II (XJ600S). Kawasaki's new-generation Ninja 500 also is "naked".

Re: WHat bikes Don't kill Insurance.

the problem is I have no money upfront, I have not been working for a while and I need a second vehicle so my wife and I can get to work, my wife and I have mixed skeduals so it does not work to well. I am actually looking more at cruisers now, but I am still thinking I like sporty bikes, most of the new cruisers are going OLD school.

tahnks for the advice, I will check out the bandits and Ninjas.

EDIT: Just checked on the Ninjas that those things ROCK. however insurance is still CRAZY, what companies are you guys using?

Re: WHat bikes Don't kill Insurance.

First, take the MSF course... you learn great technique and can get a discount with many insurance agencies.

State Farm has great rates if you have a clean record. You also have to have your car with them, though.

Yamaha FZ6

Yamaha FZ6. I bought mine new last year for around $6000. I am 28 and full coverage insurance runs around $28 a month. I also have 3 cars and homeowners insurance with them so that may have made a little difference.
