92 geo metro - alt or battery???

I have a 92 metro with 180,000. The other night while driving home the radio, etc started dying. Shut off - wouldnt restart. Next morning restarted no prob. Shut off again - wouldn't restart. But if let sit overnight it will turn over enough to restart. I don't mean to sound like an idiot but does this sound like a battery or alternator prob??? I have never heard of a car charging itself enough to start when sitting for a few hours??? It will jumpstart when batt is dead. Have not tried removing pos cable yet. HELP.

Sounds like a battery. How old is it?

Sounds like your charging cable on the alternator is fried/broken. Check it on both sides. Also, check the cable connections under the main fuse/relay box under the hood, next to the battery. Check all the wires going in/out of the bottom of it. One of them could be melted. Very common.
