Power windows / radio work with key out & door open
My son has a 98 Taurus that the power windows, heater fan, and radio all continue to work with the ignition off, key out, and driver's door open! Have left door open for at least 10 minutes and they still operate. With door open the door ajar chime sounds, so the door switch appears to work ok.
Have measured current draw from battery at 350 mA with all accesories off and door closed. Killed a new battery over weekend. Removed Battery Saver fuse and Radio fuse and current drops to about 120 mA. Service manual says 50 mA is normal. Have swapped Battery Saver relay with Rear Window Defroster relay (same type) with same result. Swapped GEM with used one from Pick 'n Pull junkyard. Problem continues. BTW anyone know what brand diag. tester Autozone uses and can they pull Ford-specific codes or just generic ODB-II codes? Thanks! |

Re: Power windows / radio work with key out & door open
I can tell you that sometimes after I turn off my Taurus, the radio has played for an extra 2-3 seconds before shutting off

I have a customers car at my shop with the IDENTICAL problem, I'm leaning towards a bad Ign switch. I let you know when I figure it out.

I agree with checkm8, I've seen bad ignition switches in that body style Tauraus before.
