Questions on a 1997 Pontiac Grand Am V-6 3.1 Engine
Hi, I am new here and would appreciate some information.
I have been offered a 1997 Pontiac Grand Am with a 3.1 V-6 engine. The body is in excellent condition and the interior looks good. I think it is an automatic. But here is the problem. The car is at the shop of a friend of mine. A guy drove it in about 6 months ago and told my friend that the engine was blown and to sell it. Well, my friend has just let it sit but I told him last week I was looking for a car that got fairly good gas milage. I drive a ford F-150 pick up as well. Well, the cost of the car is $500. I would have to put a new engiine in it. But I thinkthe rest of the car will make up for the cost of the new engine. Can one please tell me about this car? I think it has about 70,000 miles on it. I appreciate any feedback. Thanks |

Re: Questions on a 1997 Pontiac Grand Am V-6 3.1 Engine
Seems odd that the engine blew after only 70,000 miles. My buddy has a 95 grand prix with the 3.1 and it has over 150,000 miles and still runs and drives good. Also my girlfriend has a 96 monte carlo with the same engine and it has 130,000 miles and it is still a very solid car. But people do some strange things to cars. If you are looking for cheap transportation its probably a good deal though. Should be able to get an engine at a decent price.

Thanks for the feedback. What I wanted to find out was if the car ran good, sounds like that is te experience your friends have, and if it was worth my money to get it fixed. Sounds like it is. I will get some more information on the car today.
thanks for the input. |
