Post 91 TC stopped and won't turn over

I stopped to get some coffee one morning and when I started driving again, my 91 TC went about 100ft and stopped. It would crank, but not turn over.
Took it to the dealer. The service guy said they got it started by spraying the carberator with cleaner. They were able to drive it about two blocks. They are saying the Fuel pump needs to be replaced. This doesn't sound right to me.

I didn't think the 91 TC had a carborator on it. Can someone help me out please?

They probably meant the air intake - my 92 is FI. It sounds like either the filter or the fuel pump. I'd replace the filter first if the fuel pump sounds good, as it's cheaper.

When the car does run, it's very quite. So if it's the fuel pump, what noises should I listen for?

The fuel pump should be electric and I think you can hear it prime when you turn the key on. If I remember right you need to have about 70lbs of pressure from it for it to work properly. I doubt you could detect anything wrong with the pump by listening, but I'm not an expert.

Just out of curiosity, have you checked the emergency fuel shut off in the trunk? I doubt that is the problem, but it's worth checking. Someone might have backed into you at the coffee shop.

Re: 91 TC stopped and won't turn over

Ya know, I've only had the car for 6 months. I just found out there was a fuel cut off switch. Does any know where there is a diagram of the fuel pump location?

I don't know, but they are usually near the gas tank somewhere. There may be a diagram on the fan shroud.

The cut off switch is inside the trunk and usually has a plastic tag attached to it (but the tag might be gone on an older one). Check the manual and it should pinpoint the location.

If I remember correctly, the fuel pump is inside the gas tank. Like Mac626 said, replace the filter first to see if that cures the problem.

The filter is near the left/rear wheel on the frame.
