Re: Electrical problem, I think.

Yup... with 100K on it, I figure it was due
anyway. I wasn't about to pull it out and
just replace the VR and put it back in.
I got a rebuilt Delco from gmpartsdirect.com
and it went right in.

The fella I talked to at my local service center said they would have to replace the whole alt, and when I specified if just the regulartor could be replaced, he said no, he'd have to replace the whole alternator...

Perhaps the 01's are a bit different?

Thanks for the help again... sorry to hijack threads

Re: Electrical problem, I think.

Most shops don't want to rip apart
an alternator to change the
regulator. It would be something you
do when you rebuild it. They know the
same thing I said earlier. The labor cost
is significant enough to get the alternator
out and back in. The cost of a rebuilt
AC-Delco alternator is not too bad.
For my 1995, its $132. The voltage
regulator is $43. You might as well go
with a rebuilt, because they replace the
bearings.
