I'd like to get rid of the 245/75R16's on my 2002 GMC Sierra HD and add 265 or 285's. Any opinions out there? I'd like to keep my stock rim. Not for looks, but I'd like to add other accessories before adding rims.
The local tire guys told me that 285's WON'T fit. BUT I've seen them all over town. Do these guys with 285's have some serious problems (rough ride, heavy tread wear, speedometer, etc.) or what? Also, I'd like to put on some Dick Cepek FC II's. Anybody have any experience with these? Or any other tire picks? I'm a new member. Thanks for the info. jer22 |

I have an '01 Sierra 1500 LD. I put 285/75/16 BFG's on it and had no issues with the fit what-so-ever.. no rubbing or anything. The speedo was a few MPH off at highway speeds, that was about it. They give the truck a nice full wheelwell appearance. You may notice a slight differance in shifts (w/ auto tranny), like on hills. Because changing your tires size you are slightly changing your gear ratios. The 285's are said to be equal to a 33". As for the BFG's I wouldn't give you a nickel for a truck load of them.... Good luck with your decision.....

Thanks for the reply. What's up with the BFG's? Everybody's got em. At least everyone in my neck of the woods has them.
