Angry car shutting off, driving me NUTS!!

1997 GP GT, 82K, auto

My wife was driving the car to work today (its really friggin cold BTW, 3F this morning) and get almost to work (turning into the parking lot actually) and the car shuts off. No warning like a fuel pump sputter or alternator dummy light, nothing. Just dead. All it did was the ABS, low trac and trac off lights came on just before it died.

It has full power with the key on: lights, hazards, wipers, blower fan, windows, etc.

When she tries to start it, it just clicks. Once. Battery is good. I had her check the terminal contacts and she said they look good and are tight when she wiggles them. (At least she said they were. We work about 70 miles apart in different directions from home so I can't go look at it myself.)

She had the car towed to the dealership where we bought it this past Nov. They can look at it tomorrow. I'd like to get any ideas as to what it might be. I haven't seen the car yet so I haven't been able to check the battery myself. I'm really hoping that is what it is.

Any suggestions as to what else it might be would be greatly appreciated.

It did this once before to her she informed me this morning. Last time she said she waited about 1 mintue and tried to start it and it fired up and ran fine. That was about 2 weeks ago when it was really cold like this morning.

Help would be greatly welcomed!

THANKS!!

if it matters its a 3800 seriesII
I guess most of you already know that a 97 GT would have that particular powerplant.

It could be something as easy as dirty terminals......ive had it happen where they look ok from the outside, but once they are removed there is some corrosion and just need to be cleaned.Other 2 problems could either be a bad Fuel pump resistor or Crank posistion sensor that can also shut the car down.

I have a 98 GTP and had the exact same issue about 1 month ago. It ended up being the fuel pump. Pressure got too low so it was shutting down. New pump (expensive BTW) and filter and it's back up and running again.

Hope you get it figured out. :-)
