Trailer Brake Plug In

Ok, heres the deal. I bought a used, (1992) F-250. The guy had used it to pull a fifth wheel travel trailer, thus it has a brake controller/plug in. The only problem is the plug in for the trailer brakes is in the box, because it was fifth wheel trailer. I need to be able to have the plug in at the back bumper so i can plug my landscape trailer brakes into it. My question, can i splice into the existing wire and run it to the back bumper and put another plug on it, or does anyone make an extension cord i can plug into the existing outlet and run to the back bumper?

I would NOT splice in another recepticle, but rather remove the one in the bed, pull the wires back under the truck, and then reattach the recepticle where you want it.

Alternatively, you could easily make an extensior cord for your landscape trailer, but you will need at least 6 wire cord, a plug and 6-wire recepticle to make it work. This is probabally the best way because you will not have to splice (add) any wires to what it already there. In this way you do not have to worry about moisture in the connectors or salt to corrode them.

Of course if the wiring already there is green, hard and cracked, then a complete rewire is the safest thing.
