2001 Grand Am Headlamp Replacement / Please Help

All,

Maybe someone can help me out here, cause I really don't know jack about a car.

On my way home this afternoon, I heard a couple of dings and the the "Service Car Soon" light came on. So, I pulled over a mile or so down the road and I noticed that one of the headlamps is burned out.

so I assumed that the light came on because of the burned out lamp. Is that correct?>

And how hard is it to replace the lamp for someone who knows nothing about a car?

Thanks,

M........

I have a 99 Grd Am and we replaced the headlamp by doing it from under the hood/behind the light. My hus. said it was kind of complicated but that's probably b/c he hadn't done it before. My advice, get a friend who knows somewhat what they are doing and have them help you. It's only a light, it can't be that bad. But also, make sure that there is no moisture in the headlamp b/c if there is it will make the light go out much quicker.
To reset your "service car soon" light, put the key in the "on" position, open the fuse box (to the left of the steering wheel, you need to open the door) push the RESET button until the light starts blinking, once it starts blinking, hold down the reset button until it disappears.

Re: 2001 Grand Am Headlamp Replacement / Please Help

Well I own a 2000 Grand Am GT. To replace headlight, open hood, remove plastic cover over radiator. The plastic pins pull out buy pulling on the center part. You will be able to see behind the head light assembly. There are 2 metal clips with a 90 degree bend on both sides of the assembly. The one closest to the fender pulls up but does not come out.The clip closest to the radiator pulls completly out.Headlight assembly now is removed by pulling forward.Simply remove bulb and replace.Don't try removing the battery as you still can't reach the bulb. And yes the service vehicle soon light will come on.I hope this helps.

My wife and I had a time with this as well. I noticed that there is a little notch at the back of the clip that you have to pull out. First, push the clip forward towards the engine, then pull up. That's the trickiest part about the whole process. Be careful about the retaining ring around the headlamp. Some of the pieces can break off very easily. Make sure you check your alignment of the headlamps after changing them.
