2002 Sierra Duramax Odometer/Gear Selector Lighting Problem

I have had intermittent problems with my 2002 Sierra Duramax Diesel Odometer/Gear lights. At times when I start up, they will not light up. Consequently, I cannot see the odometer or gear selection.

When I brought it to the dealer to be tested, it was working, so they really couldn't help at the time.

If I tap on the plastic shroud in front of the instrument panel, it will light up. Then later on, go out. I haven't been able to get it to light up recently. Annoying to say the least.

Now, it's out of warranty. Can anyone help to trouble shoot this? Thanks!

When I had mine repaired it was the neutral switch.

Mine even quit going into gear... All good now...
