EMERGENCY - NEED TOYOTA EXPERT 94 camry LE No Spark Code 14 igniter replaced

PLEASE help. 94 Camry LE with 2.2 Liter 5S-FE motor. I am at my witts end. There is no spark at all. The car just died while driving. The timing belt is NOT broken because rotor turns when distributor cap is off and trying to start. Plenty of gas because I can smell it, but no spark. I have changed every component except the ecm. I have also traced every wire out and there do not appear to be any shorts or open circuits. When I checked the codes I got code 14 - No "IFG" signal to the ECM 8 times in succesion. Although I have not replaced the ecm, I have opened it and see no burned spots. It looks 100% ok. When I replaced the igniter, I got spark on the first couple of tries and then nothing. I have replaced the following:

Ignition Coil (inside distributor)
Rotor (inside distributor)
spark plugs
spark plug wires
condensor (inside distributor)
Ignitor (mounted to driver's side strut housing)

I guess you mean no IGF signal. Check the connectors for IGF.

How did you test for spark at the plugs?

Distributor cap?

Distributor cap has also been replaced and no luck. I have a new ECU coming, but I really don't think it is the problem. I think the biggest clue lies in the odd thing about the ignitor. After I put in a new one, it sparked for quite a while and then stopped.

Clueless. I have to get this car running. Please help. Anyone.

I have checked and double-checked the wires. No shorts or open circuits. Does anyone know of an actual case where the ECU has failed? As I said before, the ECU looks like brand new on the inside - no burned or broken compenents.

Re: EMERGENCY - NEED TOYOTA EXPERT 94 camry LE No Spark Code 14 igniter replaced

Check voltage between IGT terminal of ECM connector and body ground when the engine is cranked. 4.5 - 0.1V pulsing. Probably ECM if faulty

If ok, Disconnect igniter and check voltage between IGT terminal of ECM connector and body ground when the engine is cranked. 4.5 - 0.1V pulsing. If ok, replace igniter.

IF NG, Disconnect igniter connector and check voltage between terminal 3 (middle) of igniter connector and body ground when ignition is both at "ON" and "START" positions. 9-14 V. If NG, check and repair igniter power source circuit.

From your description, it sounds like an intermittent connection between the ignitor and the ECM. Check the connectors again.

Similar to P1300 OBDII

Do you have a distributor with pick up coils?
If so, would check there first.
The Factory Service manuals are quite helpful. They have flow charts with decision trees so the syptoms can follow logical trouble shooting step by step.
There are signal generating coils inside the distributor that have been known to go bad.
If the ECM is not receiving the signal from the distributor that could explain your problem.
There are actually different styles of distributor for the '94. My California version has many small notches, three pick up coils, and an external coil, but the principles are the same - the signal generator acts as a trigger to the power transistor in the igniter.
If the gererated signal is weak or intermittent, or temperature dependent, could explain why a new igniter helped initially if the new igniter was able to produce a spark from a weak signal, even though the problem could be in the signal generation.
Also, it is not uncommon to have problems develop from aftermarket parts in the ignition system. Make sure the plugs, wires, and other parts are genuine Toyota.
