Re: 4 grand, worth it?
awdsr20, i think it would be obvious not to pay $4000 for that car. he will try and talk the guy down.. kaisen, if you're good enough at barganing then you'll be able to take that car from him for no more than $3200. one other thing you could do is check out prices of other 240s and their relative condition to see if this price is within a reasonable range.. one thing you could hold against this guys is the fact that it DOES have exhaust, intake, suspension and wheels. thats a sign that its been beaten to shit every once in a while. there's no way it hasn't, so you could tell the guy that theres more wear and tear on the engine than normal.. all you're doing is convincing the guy that his car is worth $3000. play it cool too, if he says no, then take off and call him 2 days later to see if its sold. you might get lucky then. but its a nice looking car. good luck with it

hey bro thats one slick lookin 240 but with those miles and it being a 92 i would try and talk him down to about 3250-3600 at least. but that depends on how bad you want it. oh and make sure and check it out for rust check everwhere a buddy of mine just bought a car that looked/drove great then i was helping him replace some radiator hoses and when i crawled up under the car the front of his frame was rusted pretty bad but luckly hes really good with metal work so he just cut it off sanded everything down and replaced it all. then he found that in the door jam it was rusted all the way through but painted over to look solid. he couldnt fix it cause it was so much rust. just be carefull

Re: 4 grand, worth it?
Yes, that's true. Rust spots can be hidden in very weird places. Really check it out before offering.

Thanx guys, im going to go look at the car in person this weekend and check for rust and check the engine and all fluids and stuff (although he will probibly change them before i come anyway). The guy thats selling it is in his late 30's. Ill try and talk him down to around 3400, and see what his reaction is. I'll let you guys know what happens after i check the car out. And any specific spots to pay extra close attention to for rust/ rot??
thanx again |

Re: 4 grand, worth it?
Well i went and looked at the car today, was in pretty good shape but not as fresh as it looked in the pictures. I checked the WHOLE car, only rust spot was above the left front wheel well. The rust was only visible when you look at it from the engine bay, cant see it from the actual wheel well, the rust was about the size of a dollar bill and not that bad(but was still rust). The real reason i got turned off is because most of the left rear quarter panel has been repinated, he said it was only a minor parking lot fender bender but he could be lieing. So the left rear panel didnt match, also the left front fender didnt match because that was repainted also(not sure why). Went for a spin in it and i must say it handeled extremly well, also stopped very good. The seller originally wanted 4500 for it, i got him down to 4000 on the phone. Today after looking over the car i dont think its worth more then 3700, so i ofered him 3700. He said he didnt want to go below 3900. So i walked away, was pretty hard to do since i had the cash in my pocked and i really felt like taking home a 240 today. But im going to keep looking, il keep that one as an option if i dont find anything better. O and i forget to mention he told me his son had autocrossed it a couple of times, that was another turn off because now i know for a fact it was driven hard a few times. so THE SEARCH CONTINUES!!!!! :-(
