any suggestions for keeping your voltage up at low rpms? my friend fried his amp because his voltage dropped too low (so we assumed).. we were sitting in his driveway with his subs up pretty loud for prolly an hour or two.. and then it happened, but were assuming that even though he had like a 125 amp alternator, it wasnt doing enough with the rpms at an idle.. any suggestions? will the magic three fix this or will it take something more?

the magic 3 will help, so will a better battery

I highly doubt his amp fried from low voltage though, my guess is it just overheated and died, what brand was it? Amps just turn off when the voltage gets too low, it can do damage if you do it too many times but it's not too common.

oh really? i dotn knwo anything about amps really so even though i know more than he does i still didnt know what to tell him..

it was a rockford fosgate power 1000d or somethin.. the older ones, just before the new flat, black fosgate power amps..

he just has the stock battery and stock power wires

I'd guess from overheateing those damn fosgates get hot enuff to cook a steak.... and BE careful when doing your big 3 DO NOT accidentally arc the alternator....theyre very sensitive and the diodes inside will blow in a heartbeat.......also trace you stock path accurately and run through the fusable links box not straight to the alt.... those things are there for a reason.

Not sure if you got what you needed yet or not but I have a whole system I am parting out. Some of it is out of my demo car and some isn't. I have 2 amps left and a pair of subs new in the box. Let me know if your are interested and what you want to spend. The small amp I have is a Directed Audio 300/2 and the other is a 1500d. The subs are 10" CompX from Directed Audio too. take a look at their website at www.directed.com I will warn you that these are very high end pieces and should be handled as such. I know the 1500d will slap the monkey snot out of the subs you have now. It gave the huge CompX subs a good run for their money. Good luck, Steve@ automotive options
