I am looking to put a turbo system together. I do not want to buy a kit. Not much gain from those. May be easier, but I want to get the most power possible. Anyone have any ideas where to start or buy the parts from? Tried searching the net and came up with too much crap. Looking for some more experienced tech tips.

Re: Wanting to build turbo system, no kit!
sorry, forgot to post vehicle. 98 civic ex, D16Y8, with stage two crane cams cam ( only internal mechanical part installed at the moment) looking to get the most power out of turbo system without a lot of other major engine mods needed. Any advice would be helpful.

Re: Wanting to build turbo system, no kit!
obd is on-board-diagnostics. there are two basic versions. obd-I and obd-II. They are the brain of the powertrain system of the car. I controls, things like fuel injection, ignition, idle, and more. If your check engine light comes on it is the obd that is reading something that is possibly wrong with the car. It stores a trouble code in the obd so that you can pull the code from the system to diagnose what is wrong with the vehicle. Those are just some basics of it. It can go a lot farther into detail. It is could be located in many different places. Behind the driver or passenger side kick plate, behind the center console toward the fire wall, underneath the dash, behind the glove box, i've even seen them wired up under the seats on custom cars in order to make clearence for speakers or custom interior work that would make access to the computer behind the kick plates impossible to get to. I hope this helps you out some.

I've also been thinking about boosting my d-series (after watching some crazy vids on HMT)
Where do you get parts? Like a local Pick-N-Pull or something? I think I saw them running DSM turbos (from Chrysler etc..) on Civics/CRX's and then you just get the adapter plate to fit right? How much would you be spending to do all this? Also my Civic has 137k miles on it..is it still ok to boost it with this kind of mileage? Or would I need to reenforce (new gaskets etc..) first? Thanks |<inked~
