car wants to die at low rpms, and now i've lost heater fan

Starting a few weeks ago, my 93 escort wagon starts and runs fine, but after it gets warmed up, it wants to die when I come to a stop sign. (I need to keep revving the motor to keep it from quitting.) About the same time, my radio and dome lights stopped working.

Then yesterday I noticed a weird smell, which I think was antifreeze, and the next time I started it, the heater fan, which was running, stopped working. (I live in Minnesota, and it is below zero.) Any ideas?

Re: car wants to die at low rpms, and now i've lost heater fan

I got similar troubles on my 95 Escort 1.9L.

First, since about 3 weeks, my car wants to die at idle when it's warm. It's always working fine at low temperature and when the motor is over 1000 RPM.

While it gets slower, the idle becomes very rough and finally, it goes slower and slower to 200 RPMs, and it finally stalls.

Yesterday, I started my car and my heater fan didn't work at all for a few minutes. It finally started by itself and I didn't experienced any trouble about the fan since this time. But I still have troubles at idle speed.

The other thing that is similar to your case is that I live in Quebec and the temperature have an average of about -15 this winter

I still wonder what is the trouble!
What I suggest you is to take a look on this page:

you have a serious electrical problem a short somewhere. Start at the basics look over all the wire connections, alt, battery. When you say fan did you mean your radiator fan?
