Angry Track1

Hey how are you doing? I have a problem. I went to auto zone to have my 2001 Olds (61,000 miles) checked out because of a check engine light. I don't remember all of what was on the paper, but one part did say something about a "torque converter". I went to the dealer for this problem, and they have kept it ever since. In fact, tomorrow it will be about a week. The techinican says that it is all about the codes and how he had to replace a couple of computers. In fact today he told me that he has to break down the whole transmission to diagnois the problem. My question is, is this really necessary, i mean can the car run with the light on and will it create future problems...And yes i do have a warrenty and HOPE that it will cover this!!

Thanks.

Re: Track1

Warranty should cover this powertrain problem, but yours is the first I have heard regarding the 4T80E and its torque converter on 2nd Gen Aurora.

Unless you have the V6 Aurora with the 4T65, then I am not suprised at all. Its known to go on the V6 version (not necessarily the Aurora) however GM has that tranny on most (if not all) automatic V6 cars in its fleet.

Make sure you get the right information from the dealer and keep us informed.

Good luck

Re: Track1

Hey thanks for answering....
I have the v8 model and am not sure by what you mean in regards to 4t80e, but now the dealer tells me that a NEW (well used) transmission is needed.they found one at 21,000miles but dam, is the transmission supposed to go at only 61,000 miles being that it is only a 2001?. Something is wrong, something is definitely wrong!!!

Re: Track1

The 4T80e is the transmission for your V8 Aurora. In my opinion its one of the best GM transmissions out there, however like any car it can have issues. Sorry to hear yours has to be replaced, but its a rare case (esp in a low mileage 2nd gen)
