Recommened Tires For 1998 Aurora?
What do you gentlemen recommend for tires for the 1998 Aurora w/o the Autobahn package? I am seriously considering Michelin "Hydro-edge" tires in P235 60 16. I had also considered the "Energy MXV4 Plus" in the same size. However, these tires have a treadlife expectation of 35,000 according to the folks at Michelin I spoke with yesterday. What do you guys have?

I have a set of bridgestone Turanza LS-h's on mine. Best investment I ever made. They outperform the michelins they replaced in every respect, especially rain.... I am about to replace them with another set.
I got over 50,000 miles from them |

I replaced my '95 Aurora OEM Goodyear GA's at 55,000 and went with Michelin Energy MXV4 Plus. I now have 55,000 on these with 6/32nd's left of tread life left all around (just measured), meanign have the tread life is left. These tires used to have a 50,000 mile warranty, but I see no reason they shouldn't last at least 60,000 -70,000, depending on your driving style.
I know in reviews the Michelins do not seem to be well regarded, but I have been very pleased with them. They run really smooth, don't seem to be a problem in the rain (remember, the Aurora is a really heavy car) and are wearing well. Just checked and Tirerack had them for $141 each before S&H, and NTB in the Chicago area was selling them for around $160. You can buy an extended warranty for these tires at NTB to bring warranty coverage up to 50,000, BTW. Hope this helps. |

Re: Recommened Tires For 1998 Aurora?
Thanks for the input! Sam's Club has the best price on the HydroEdge. I can purchase the Energy MXV4 Plus locally for 147 installed with lifetime rotation and balance included.
"I have a set of bridgestone Turanza LS-h's on mine." Are they quiet tires? Neverheard of them. From their name, could I imply that these are a performance tire? This is where I am debating. To go for a performance or touring type tire. From What I have read the Goodyears installed originally were a touring tire. I do not want to make to harsh of a ride in my baby! |

Bridgestone
The Turanza's are a high perfomance touring tire.. They may be a bit stiffer than you want, I am not sure.. For what its worth, my wife likes them.says they make the car feel more solid. Go to Tirerack.com and read some reviews... maybe you can get some input that will help.. one thing I like , compared to the michelins ( which were the Symetry) is no more squealing during moderate/hard cornering............

Re: Recommened Tires For 1998 Aurora?
Replaced the Bridgestone Turanzas wiff Goodyear Integrity tires. The Integrity's don't ride as stiff as the Turanzas or handle as nicely, but the tire noise is cut down quite a bit & handles in rain very well.
If you got struts that are shot...the softer ride of the Integritys will really have you floating & bouncing...not cool. Got em cuz I told guy at tire store I wanted tires that were " black, round, held air & will git me down the road a bit". No complaints. |

Gentlemen:
Thank you for your advice. I just went to Sam's after having ordered the Michelin "Hydro Edge" from them and had them installed. They are the P23560R16 "T" speed rated and are fabulous. I put 70 miles on them tonight driving interstate and secondary roads. Some of the roads had some pretty good turns in them. The tires are quiet, smooth and very responsive. This is one happy Aurora Driver! |

Re: Recommened Tires For 1998 Aurora?
Thanks for the Hydro Edge info - I've been researching tires for my '96 - still have the OEM Eagle GA's with 100k mileage - finally time for replacements!
Most of the web reviews I found complained about the various tires for one reason or another. I think one reason would be because they were driving light cars or trucks - not the heavier Aurora. The hydro edge was the only tire I found that had consisently high praise and ratings. Sam's Club is now on my calendar for January based upon your 70 mile test run... |

Spinman:
I have over 400 miles on the new Hydro Edge Michelins. Interstate, Highway and secondary roads. EXCELLENT. I drove the Aurora in snow with them and again, Excellent performance and traction. Supersmooth, quiet. I am still very happy with these. BTW. Michelin offers a 2 year road hazard warranty for these if one ever goes flat, they will send someone for free to change them for you. Can't beat that on top of all the other pluses. Sam's here sells them for just under $125 a piece. |
