97 escort shifter is stuck

Ok the shifter on my 1997 ford escort is stuck in park their isnt much moving range it just wont move the button will not go in


Also my key will not move into lock position i must take it out in acc very bad >_<

Check the brake light fuse-this is the fuse that also works the shift lock. If it is not blown, then you probably have a bad shift lock switch, which is located under the plastic cover in the shifter. You can bypass it by removing the little plastic plug by the shift lever and sticking a screwdriver in it to get it out of park. Also, make sure you are pushing the brake down as you try to shift it. IT seems as if the key not coming out and the not shifting are related.
