You really have to see how they drive in Italy or France to understand...

Ummmmmm clap clap for you?

Like Jay said, until you drive in Italy, Spain, France or Portugal, then you won't understand just how unpredicatable driving really is. Imagine a world where driving simply consisted of backing (badly) out of your driveway and then after that it was a free-for-all amongst a bunch of people who thought they were Schumacher. That's what driving around here is like.

I am not invincible believe it or not, nor do I believe I am. I've had extensive track time in everything from a diesel Fiat to a Ferrari 360 Modena as well as driving all over Europe, New Zealand and a good few parts of Australia. So even with all that experience I still use things like traction control and ESP simply because I'm not cocky (Trust me it's people who subscribe to the "I'm a driving god" ideal that get into the worst accidents- Cops, teenagers and Race drivers making up most of that picture) and accept that there are risks beyond my control.

Re: Scarriest driving Moment?

DUDES

I nearly had a head on collision on the 3rd of Jan this year (2005 :LOL

I was stuck in behind this old car with a big trailer around this damn, he was going slow, I didn't care cause whether or not he was going slow I would of anyway cause it was dam (water place) area and it is scary as.

Anyway, we got to the 80 zone in the open, and he was doing 50, I was like "wtf mate", the 100 zone came, and it was doing 60, so I got a chance to over take, and he sped up, 80, 100, 130, and he wouldn't let me fucking pass him, then a white commodore was in the other lane coming to me, and i just put the car into 3rd, hit the power switch and fucking floored it, I made it by 2 seconds. TWO SECONDS...

And shorter and I wouldn't be posting this, no doubt, I sped off over 150 and got away from that fucker as far as I could. I slowed down not too long after and stuck to my speed limit.

Re: Scarriest driving Moment?

ha, yes.

this is the 2nd time in about 15 months i've done something that I had to hit my self over the head

I was relaxed, and the guy sped up, the 'logical' thing to do, was to slow back down, I dunno why I didn't.

ed*

There was nothing coming, I could see for over 2km, there was nothing, so I overtook at 60km in the 100 zone. The guy sped up as I was over taking, I was determined to get infront of him, and I had to break the speed limit to do that.

By the time I had my shot, a white car was coming, so I had to go even faster to go around him in time.
I still hit my head, I was so scared after that, I normally drive like a granny most of the time, under the speed limit, not accelerating hard etc, ya know, just cruising, the trip is around 2 hours, so i had to be relaxed, just this one time.......

Re: Scarriest driving Moment?

Mine would be when I was convoying with my mate up the motorway (Freeway to you guys). We were both in Supra's and to take the bordum out of the journey we did the usual overtaking each other and general playing about.

Now I had just put my foot down and overtaken my mate and he had pulled in behind me to take chase and we had got up to about 130mph when out the corner of my eye, I notice that the tyre on the back of a lorry heading the other way on the other side of the freeway came away from the rim.

Now things suddenly went in slow motion and I saw this tyre bounce a couple of times gathering height and then it came right across the central reservation and hit the ground right in front of the nose of my supra, bounced up and over my car and landed infront of my mate's supra and then bounced off somwhere (at this point I was gripping the steering wheel so hard I didn't care where it bounced next.

We both pulled in at the next services and litterally fell out the cars as our legs had gone to jelly and several swear words were exchanged.

There were no reports of accidents on the radio later so I assume it miraculously missed all the cars and came to a stop on the side of the road.

Bloody scary though.

At least your not the guy losing the tire. Having a tire blow on a trailer or lorrie(sp?) as you call it is VERY dangerous. If it isn't handled properly or is at a high rate of speed death is almost a certainity. I will say from experience it is one of the scarriest driving scenerios there is.
