Re: Team Blue hair

lol, you dont have to consult me. Drop by the car audio forum and there are people in there who have far more experence than myself. if you really want to tlak to some experts sign up at DIYaudio.com i just recently got a s/n there (same one incase you are wondering) and ive searched through some of the past conversations and some of the things they are worried about i hardley even think of, especially the home theatre guys worying about infrabass extention and optimal port velocity for their specific room application. its crazy.

They use your normal everyday coild an single magnet feild giving it a horrible BL curve and limits their xmax.
Woofers such as the brahma and XXX use XBL^2 motor technoligy. i would explain how it works extensively but im lazy and your eyes would fall out. Think of it this way 2-3 magnets with feilds that overlap perfectly so as the coil moves it moves efficently from one to the next givig it percision movement at all frequincies and excursions. the JL w7 uses DML technoligy, im not as familure with it but it acomplishes the same thing in a very different way. Image Dynamics also uses their own motor technoligy to obtain a flat BL curve (FYI BL is related to the strenght of the driver as a curve over an entire frequincy range)

XBL^2 cost a pretty penny though. but adire, RE, DD, etc... all also know how to make an efficent coil capable of reaching great excursions on minimal power and still sounding good through research. Audiobahn and many other mainstream ocmpanies focus their products an being the loudest with the most power handleing. Audiobahn overrates their woofer's senstivity greatly. they add a few more windings to their coil to obtain greater powrehandleing while sacrificing sensitivity. and the funny thing they are only hurting themselves. if you add enough windings to double power handleing but you loose 3dB sensitivity you gained nothing. because it takes either double the power or doble the displacement (related to surface area*Xmax so basically doubleing the sirface area) to gain 3dB.

also companies such as Kicker, MTX, Audiobahn, etc. will give box reccomendations for pure SPL. this means high tuning and large displacement. the resulting factore is limiting low end exteantion because port velocity gets out of hand and therefor cuases an uncontrolled cone movement if you ever play low low (sub 28Hz) frequincies.

Re: Team Blue hair

all I know is that I have 2 10' pioneer subs hooked up to an audiobahn amp and you can hear me coming from a block down the street if I feel like a jerk and blast the subs. I enjoy the way my setup hits but whats your take on pioneer fryman?

Re: Team Blue hair

IMO, Pioneer=Poo.
As far as woofers go. They have somewhat decent Door speakers as far as main stream goes and their head units are "ok" ive never messed with their componet sets.

its like i said anyone can get loud, and if that is all you are looking for and you also like to brag about your sapposed 2000w amp then sure SPL oriented mainstream products can sometimes be found cheaper and will most likely meet you wants/needs.

you dont need things like XBL^2 and DML motor technoligy for rap and hard beating techno that doesnt reach too low. But for Rock With alot of drums, bass guitar, and any type of "real" music as old people put it, XBL^2 and DML type technoligies are what you want. otherwise at high volumes/excursions your motor looses BL and therefore cone controll and therefore SQ. But if yo uare used to rap on conventional coil and single magnetic feild motor designs at high volumes and you switch to XBL^2 or DML motors the bass line suddenly becomes alive with color and meaning, not just that soud that is making your whole car rattle. The only problem is XBL^2 isnt cheap, even with non mainstream companies. and because Adire owns the patent, if you like XBL^2 you may as well jsut get it from adire, because all other companies have to pay gratuities to adire and that makes their product cost a few bucks more. and if cost the same or cheaper they are cutting something out somewhere. COmpanies like RE who have been using XBL^2 for a while may cost close to the Brahma or Koda but not less. the XXX was made for SQ and jsut happened to get loud, jsut like the brahma, but it has a great power handling, is slightly more inefficent, and will get slightly louder. just remember this. for the price, there isnt much that will get louder than a properly powered XXX or Brahma in a ported enclosure. and you will sound damn good in the process as well....

Re: Team Blue hair

Um, I don't know. but this one time I was at world of wheels they had this obnoxious thing with really loud stereos. Man it was boring. If getting rid of my stereo would shave a tenth or two...hell..I'd do it. but it doesn't weigh very much so I don't bother. I rarely listen to it. I'd rather hear my motor.
