92 Escort GT 5 speed Won't crank

Starting was intermittent, installed new starter, problem still intermitted, now car won't crank at all. by passed clutch switch changed alternator, battery has charge can push start and runs-Any Ideas

Tomcat,
The problem could be in the ignition switch, starter relay, poor ground etc. You must isolate and test the componets.

a. Can you hear the starter solonoid (relay) click when you try to start it? If it doesn't click either the starter relay circuit is open or, the relay is bad.
b. remove the push on connector (red/blue wire) from the starter relay check it for cleanliness and check to see relay is grounded to chassis.
c. Run a jumper wire from the + Battery terminal to the exposed terminal on the relay. If, the starter now works the relay is O.K. and the problem is in the ignition switch or wiring between the ign. sw. and the relay.
c.1. If, the starter did not work with the jumper, the problem is in the relay or relay contacts. Replace the relay.
