Race time - Launching

Probably a bit late to be asking, but it's race night tonight.

In just 4 hours I'll be on the track.

The only mods done to my '91 3000gt is a pod filter, so no internal strengthening has taken place.

What revs should I get it to before dropping the clutch? I don't want to destroy anything.

I assume taking it to 7000rpm before shifting is fine.

I might be late with this info, but you dont want to hit it at 7K, around 4K is a good launch for the AWD.

Damnit it got rained out.

Got it, that sounds about right. I'll try a couple today.

It got rained out. I've got my launching down pat though. Maybe it'll be on again this weekend.

rev the engine from 4,000 rpm to 4500 rpms, try to keep it in that range, when the light turns green slip the clutch out, dont DROP it, thats not good for you tranny. If you dont care about tranny at all rev it to 6500 rpm and drop the clutch it will be one hell of a takeoff, but your tranny wont last long.

Gotcha I did a nice takeoff the other night from 4000rpm. Wheels squealing, thrown back in seat, etc. Very smooth.

So. The question looms. With a good takeoff, what can a 3000gt expect to run on the 1/4 mile? Only mods are a cone filter. My mate says 16's. I'd like to do a bit better than that. *cough*

Non turbo DOHC will run low 15 high 14 1/4 mile, I thought you had a turbo The VR4 will run 13.4- 13.6 depending on driver and conditions.Thats for a second gen VR4, I have never owned a first gen, but they are a little slower due to less horsepower and longer gearing.

I do own a turbo... I dunno where my friend got that estimate of 16s from.

Ok, something to aim for.
