ALRIGHT EVERYONE HRE IS THE BACKGROUND.
98 NEON EX 2DR DOCH WITH A 2.4L DOCH OUT OF A 99 BREEZE. Car always ran on the cool side as the coolant temp. sens. was gone ...so over the christmas holidays take it into chrysler to get them to change the thermostat housing which had a tiny nick in it that was messing with the seal and to change the thermostat and temp. sens. So i get it changed (buddy is a numb nuts) and then he sends me on my way for the 300km drive back home. I make a couple stops on the way out of town to say by to family and friends then jump on the road. I get about 100km out of town and the coolant starts to bubble (AIR!!!) so let it cool down only to notice the hose from the over flow to the rad is not connected with the clamp (GREAT MORE AIR!! SUCKED IN WHEN IT COOLED). So filler back up, try to bleed the air and head out again. Went though this whole process three times as couldn ot get the air out (thinkin by now must be cracked head or blown gasket to have this much air). So in town for a couple days it ran fine though I got all the air out and all seemed well...So then go to take another trip to get my 20 month old son. Get there (300k) with one tiny episode that s toppedo n its own...head back with him and BOOMMM!! Yup bubbles , smoke, coolant all over the engine!! YIPPY!!! So I made it 100km. Left the car there got a ride the additional 200km home by a family member and got the car towed 100km back to chrysler for 285 CDN dollars!! The car gets there they say ITS RUNNING FINE!! yeh ok take it on the highway! Anyways seems for some reason my fans are backwards (i have two even though I dont have airconditioning) so they are sucking hot air off the engine and trying to push it out the rad. But here is the thing! They say that is why it over heated!! nO ! I have had it this way for ever...3 years! never a problem till CHRYSLER did their handy work. Plus I have the large rad not the rinky dink one that comes with a car without ac I have the big one and NO AC and two FANS!! the fans backwards did not over heat>>>>> what do you think! If anything should of ran cold...the temp here that day was bout -15. So they are saying it is my fault~ |

Re: Possible Blown Head Gasket Fans Backwards???
It did not heat up that bad...was running at say 180 for about 60km then the temp plummeted down to 140 and ran there then began to climb back up and then dropped. then we lost all heat, coolant began to bubble, popped the hood and whammm..boiling hot! guessing there was a bubble around the sensor not letting it read the proper temp. so it could of been a lot higher but would never know with all the air.
Thing that pisses me off just put the 2.4L DOCH out of a 99 breeze in this thing june 23 of this year! Now I cant even drive it! waste of money only for chrysler to mess it up |

Re: Possible Blown Head Gasket Fans Backwards???
Yeah it was pulling air from somewhere for sure, and airlocking. Even a little bit of air will make it act dumb like that.
I'm wondering if that guy didn't put the thermostat in backwards. It's cold outside, and if that sensor isn't reading correctly anyways maybe it's taking longer than normal for it to realize that the motor is actually ice cold but all the water coming up to the thermostat is wicked hot...

Re: Possible Blown Head Gasket Fans Backwards???
That is why we initally thought the head gasket but the guy left that hose off (small one running from the bottle to the rad) and my car cooled of a few times bettween when he did it and when i noticed so it got a hell of a lot of air. But he did change the sensor (coolant temp) but if there was a bubble there from all the air it would read wrong. I have never heard anyone installing a thermostat backwards...huh??? this guy was a dolt anyways dont know how he worked for chrysler....
This is the messed up part. Car with no AC with a l arge rad (2x the size of normal rad for non ac car) plus two fans...in my uneducated opinion in -15 weather with the rad open (noting covering it) with 2 fans if it did heat up it would of cooled itoff.. before this whole episode it would take 25 min for the temp to get to 190 idling....oh gee i dont know! |

Re: Possible Blown Head Gasket Fans Backwards???
Dolt?
I'm sure it's one of these two things: The thermostat is in there backwards, or when that hose was off it pulled a bunch of air inside and pressurized, blew the head gasket and now whenever you drive it it pulls air in and airlocks. Are you good at yelling? This is dealer material.

Dolt...dumb @$$,,,,Numb nuts,,,,dumb as $hi+
I checked and the housing for this thermostat will not allow it to be put in backwards. I am good at yelling and have my father who has been a mechanic for the last 30+ years yelling too! Plus I have been emailing back and forth with Rick eherenberg from Mopar getting his feedback o nthe situation. |
