Re: 92 DX mods?

Wait...do you have a DX or a CX?
For a CX - The only way you're going to get any more pep out of your CX is to do an engine swap. I wouldn't even turbocharge it or add n2o. It's a gutless 70hp, 8 valve motor. I should know I drive one myself. But if you're only looking for a slight change, you could get an intake and swap the header for one from a DX or Si. With the intake you'll need a 1¼" coupler to fit on the T-body. I had to double up another coupler around that to fit it to my short ram intake. But still you're not going to see much out of that this as is. With the car itself you definently have the weight advantage on your side. Honestly I don't think you could even put a vtec head on it (that's what I've heard, I have absolutely no first hand knowledge on this however). If you don't want to wait and save up some $ for a b-series swap (or have no intentions of ever doing one) then I'd recommend swapping over the d16z6 vtec engine. That would give you quite a bit of pep compared to the stock go-kart motor.

For a DX - yes you can swap the d16 head on it and turn it into a mini-me. You can also do any of the things Civic_D16Y5 said.

Re: 92 DX mods?

well put civic spoon.

I also doubt the swapping of heads. A SOHC vtec swap is your cheapest bet and really only hope more then a few more HP also if you can swap trannys for a shorter ratio one and help you use those couple of HP you got.

This is my buddies ride and figured a swap would be the best bet. So lets talk about swaps. He doesnt need a track performer but a enough to burn a few people when he needs to or at least keep up. He is converting from Lowrider to Tuner. He will have his cutty with hydros sold tomorow and wants to spend the money on mods for his civic. We live in Iowa and need something to do over the winter. I am doing a swap on my prelude but now that the cutty is gone we have an empty spot in the garage waiting for work. Give me your ideas on a decent swap and maybe some direction on some info. Thanks alot

Re: 92 DX mods?

if u want to go all power do a b18c (GSR) motor swap....run a n intake, exhaust and new ignition sytem...if u want turbo go b18a becuz it has a lower compression ratio.....for a cheap quick on an already feather light car go with a sohc vtec..port and polish, new pistons, cam it and add a turbo with the regular mods(intake, exhaust, header, ignition) that will be plenty for a car that weighs around 2600 lbs...u can get the engine with tranny (swap) online at hmotors.com and all your mods probably totalling up to 1500$...i have a few freidns with single turbo vtecs and they love it....not too expensive but with plenty of kick....just a suiggestiuon but definitly go with a swap....

Re: 92 DX mods?

i can tell you now, b18c1 is a great motor to begin with. its got enough tourque that is a reasonable car around town and off the line, its got enough hp to keep up/ beat most cars on the road and its got a decent compression levels so if you plan to use force inductuion its still good for that to.
the b18c5 (type R) is an excellant motor if you plan to stay NA. its got a great short gear trans but if you plan FI later on you will want to lower the compression a little,.
the b16 is an ok motor imo. it lacks the tq needed to really be a great motor. but again once you get it into vtec it will pull nicely.

Re: 92 DX mods?

and again i dont know who keeps telling everyone to upgrade their ignition system on a basic stock motor, YOU ARE WRONG. you gain very little if anything at all. i have over 300whp on a stock ignition with no problems. and seen 400whp on other cars with no problem.

Re: 92 DX mods?

TYPERX7, you said all that stuff with the SOHC VTEC would all equal up to $1500. Does that include every thing you listed such as port and polish, cams and pistons and the turbo kit? Because i already have that same engine and i want to do something to do it for as cheap as i can.
