Unhappy '99 Grand AM GT, ETC and Low Traction Light

Hi,

Is there a way to bypass or disable the Electronic Traction Control on a '99 Grand Am GT. I'm asking this because I really find it annoying when I get stuck in snow/ice and can't get out because the ETC kills the power of the engine as soon as the wheels starts spining. Also, do you know if by doing so this would have negative effects on other component such as the EBS.

Thank you,

Thank you.

Unfortunately it is a used car we purchased and it didn't come with a owners manual so we are kind of guessing where things are. It's also an automatic but I will look further to see if there isn't a switch somewhere that could turn off this option.

Wishing you a happy new year!.

You should be able to press it once without holding it, and the light on the dash indicating that ETC is off should light.

Thank you,
Disabling your ETS won't have have any effect on your ABS Stang. They're on seperate systems. I have tried this on my 01 GA and the ABS still works fine with it off. It doesn't effect any other components. I reccomend leaving it off all the time. One of the first things I do every time I get in my car is turn off the ETS. It's a joke. All it does is rob horsepower.

it may sound dumb put i had this problem after giving some one a jump and it was nothing more than a low battery. cost over $100.00 for some jack ass to hook it up to a computer, drive it around and all kinds of stuff. Battery had enough juice to start but something was make it run low. got barrery charged and it went away. 99 grand am se.
