glovebox jammed

I am in the middle of working on performance problems in a 1986 Camaro Spt Coupe that led to a failed NJ Emissions Test. I'll post all that later. So far it looks like a nasty air leak.

In the meantime the glovebox on the center console Jammed closed. The button will not depress. At least I think you need to depress it to open the thing. It's one of those things you do automatically until something goes wrong.

I thought something was caught in the lock so I tried fishing in there with all kinds of skinny things. No luck thus far. The problem is I really don't remember what the mechanism looks like. If someone could post a description of some sort it would really be appreciated. I'd rather open it with gentle persuasion than break everything and have to go junkyard searching for a new door. Besides my registration and insurance ID are locked in there. With a bad inspection sticker on one of these cars and no ID I think I might upset the local constables. I really hate having cars impounded

Thanks for the reply. The car has been with us for about seven years. Someone may have done something earlier. Maybe the use of the word lock isn't exactly correct. It has a latching mechanism but no real lock. It's a button about 1 x2 inches at the front of the console glovebox. It just doesn't move anymore.

Thanks again for the help. It's just that I can't remember if the thing has one of those bar like arrangements that it grabs or a pin going into a hole or ???? If we can figure it out it'll save at least the vinyl covering the door or maybe the whole door.

Have a good trip.
