CRV motor into 2002 Civic EX
MERRY CHRISTMAS! Ok, now down to business. I have a friend who just bought a 2002 Civic EX (waste of money in my opinion) and he wants to drop in a 2002 CRV motor. The new motor is a 2.4L with about 140 hp. He was giving me some crap about it having 200 some-odd hp, but I don't believe him. Anyway, my question is, will the 2002 CRV motor work with a 2002 EX engine bay? I heard the CRV motor is K series, does that have any effect on the swap? Also, what kind of electronic mods do you think will have to be made to get the engine running properly? Thanks for all the help.

Enough of the crap talk.
Please speak english in this forum, and BE NICE TO OTHER MEMBERS! Flaming will not be tolerated. The engine in the new CRV is just another variation of the engine in the S2000 and the new Integra, i.e its a K/F series. but is slightly detuned. As for fitting it to a new 7g Civic, well its not going to be a striaght bolt in operation. Not to mention the fact that its going to cost a hell of a lot more than any performance gain is worth. Save up and buy a new Si.

The 2001 ex is still a d series motor. D17 to be exact. The new crv is a k24 and the rotating assembly spins the opposite direction compared to other honda motors. The rsx and crv have a "k" series motor. It could be swapped but it would be a pain and a lot of custom fab work.

if you want pickup ... no CRV will give you that
GO with the ODESSEY ENGINE ... yeah man ...
Come on ... CRV engine will have very good performance in a civic frame ... but the engine is also 250 lbs heavier ... so gas will be burned more ... for example ... a honda CRX ... 91 DX ... change manifold and mount a 4th gen SIR engine ... weight difference ... will compensate the pickup ... unless you mod the shi- out of that motor ... shave the heads/dome pistions ... and catback ... that's about all you'll need to have a really fast CIVIC ... BTW ... I heard that CIVIC will be made in JAPAN in 2005 with AWD ... any news on this ? and ... another thing ... check out this post ... Anything is Possible
Funny that you should ask that question because it is in The December Issue of Super Street. They said that it would be very difficult to do for a number of reasons, such as: The location of the intake and exhaust on the CRV engone is different, as well as the crankshaft turning in the opposite direction.
My opinion is that it just wouldn't be worth it.... for the money you'd spend you could have a lot more then 160hp coming out the stock EX engine. Hope this helps.
