3rd generation rx7turbo 9/10 have rebuilt motors before 100k
man i bought a 93 rx7(used with only 18k miles)about two years ago for 8500.00. i did research and most 93-95 rx7's with 100k on the engine's were rebuilt.So about 60k or so miles later on mine, i was losing compression(but i didnt know what was wrong with it), so i took it to mazda dealership. The dealership did not have a tech that could work on my car,so i went 50 miles to another mazda dealership, and they had a tech but he hasn't worked on one in four years
 . i tell him im losing power,i leave it there,they call me back suggest i :tranny flush,coolent flush,oil flush, fix two oil leaks,replace some hoses,belt+the full 9 yards and do a full inspection.WEll well well the bill for that was 1300.00  so i pay it.One month later it still feels weak and i get an oil change, an a tech yelled up to me (hey your rearmain seal is leaking,looks like its has been leaking for a while).So i bring it back to mazda they comfirmed it and said id be 2000.00 and would be better to buy a remanufactured engine. well i just spent 1300.00 on all that tuneup for nothing-them fuckers new the seal was bad!!.S0 i dropped 11k on a Ls-1 conversion, instead of rebuilding the 13btt over and over!!93-95 mazda rx7 itself is a lemon,  but its so nice.

The 3rd Gen RX-7 is a great sports car...However its complicated twin turbo system is hard to work on...These cars use oil (By design) and run hoter then piston engines...So more care is need to upkeep them...Many owners didn't know that and many were beat on!
Thats a very good value for such a low mile 3rd Gen... It sounds like the dealer made you pay alot of cash for things that had nothing to do with power...(Unless the hoses replaced were Turbo/boost vacume related) Research the car over at the RX7 club forum... $11k is a ton to drop on a conversion, but I have thought of a V8 swap before myself... They aren't lemons but more finiky then the 2nd gen Turbo II's... Good luck/skill, let me know how it goes.
