no key hole on passengers side

well my wife just blew my mind yesterday, we parked beside a red aztek just like ours yesterday and she asked me why doesnt her side have a key hole on it, i looked at her like she was crazy, and then i saw there was only a key hole on the drivers side, i never noticed it in the 4 months we had this thing,

is the reason because there is keyless entry? at least thats what i told her, so i hope im right,

its an '04 by the way if that helps

Alot of new cars don't have the keyhole on the passenger side. It's one way to cut money on something that is never used anymore. And yes, it's because of the keyless remotes. With keyless remotes there's no need to walk around to the other side of the car first to unlock the door for your friends or anything like that. Just push the button twice. It kinda makes it nicer in a way that it's one less way for a thief to try and break into your car. But they have to keep the keyhole on the driver side or else you'd be S.O.L. if your battery ever died in the remote.

it would be cool not to have any but the trunk one

but oh well, maybe ill get it taken out and the handles shaved off, that would look cool

I don't think the rest of the public would agree that they would want to only have the one on the back. I know I wouldn't want to climb in through the hatch, over the back seats, and then over the driver seat to get the driver door unlocked. Personally I never see them taking that keyhole out. I know some companies have tried but they've had more complaints about it than good and basically for the exact reason if the remote dies.

Re: no key hole on passengers side

You have got me going though on when they first did take it off the passenger side. Everytime I read this post I wonder what year they took it off. ALso with your idea of taking it off the driver side too, for an Aztek or SUV that might work, but when you think about a car, I highly doubt anyone would want to climb through a trunk if their keyloess remote dies. The thing that is funny though is the one for an Aztek on the hatch. On Aztekfanclub.com someone asked a question about the hatch one once and many of the common members of it had to go check their Aztek to see where the hatch key was, we were all so use to just using the keyless remote and the button inside that we didn't realize there was a keyhole.

Re: no key hole on passengers side

Welcome to the new world where everything is wireless and automated. We through this become more idiotic, forgetting times when phones weren't push button, ignition keys were only for the ignition, and alas when both doors and the trunk had a keyhole. Soon our children won't even know what a car key is, if you've seen the new 2005 corvette you know exactly what I mean. If you don't I'll spell it out, the new corvette doesn't have any keys...door, ignition, or otherwise no keys at all just a keyfob keyless entry remote. They say just have the keyfob within range and touch a panel on the door and it unlocks, once your in don't bother getting out the ignition key just push the start button.

I've not inquired about this system but I wonder if there is an off and acc button with the start button and what does one do when the battery goes dead or is unplugged during maintenance.
