87 monte 305-455 swap

I plan to do naughty things....my dream car is a 87 monte with a 454, but i found a monte for 200$ with a blown motor and tranny...i dont have much money and it would just so happen that i have a buick 455 with a th400 tranny...i would like to know what it would take to get this motor and tranny in the monte, can i buy a conversion kit for 305-455? can i make one? Will the new setup fit right in, any and all info would be great. -thankyou

I'm not sure if there's a conversion kit or not. I'm sure it can be done though - my buddy just put a 450 hp 396 in his 86' monte!

Re: 87 monte 305-455 swap

My guess is that you would need to get some new motor mounts. You may have to even weld them in a new location. You should definently add some fram support if you're throwing in a 455. Also, you may need to hammer out a spot for the distributor.

thanks for the info, do u know about how many motor mounts their are? I dont think ill need to hammer anything, the distributor on buick engines is in the front....do u think i can just hook up the th400 tranny, or will i have to get a new/custom driveline? and where would i put the supports?-thanks again

Re: 87 monte 305-455 swap

2 motor mounts, left and right.

Your tranny supports may be off with the new setup. You may also need a shortened driveshaft..
