injectors

so i talked to my grandpa about the reasons as to why my 240 might have burst into flames. he used to own a maxima and he said he had the injectors replaced. he can vouch for 10 other nissan vin numbers as well that had injector problems. my uncle took his 300zx in for injectors and there was a burnt one in the back with the same problem. do you think the faulty injectors on my 240 couldve started the fire? and also...im just letting you all know so you can check it out if you havent already done so...

I don't think it would be the injectors as much as it would be the O-rings around them. A serious leak in one of those could spill enough gas to start a fire. A small one. Maybe.

How big a fire are we talking?

how would bad injectors cause fire?

a bad injector would cause you to run either rich because its frozen and stuck open, or lean casue its stuck closed.

or you could just have leaky injectors which means the o-rings are worn, and its not sealing up the pressure perfectly in the fuel rail and the fuel is just dribbling down constantly.

what could be a possiblity is a corroded harness or electrical connection. there resistance is too great and it caused great heat, which caused a electrical fire.

4 foot flames. it actually happened 5 days after i sold it, he lost all hydrolic pressure, pulled over with the ebrake, and 4 foot flames instantly shot out from under the hood.

Ahhah

Hydraulic Fluid is ummm Flame-able! In shop at my Aviation Maintenance class we lit hydraulic fluid in this steel bottle with a bout a pint in there and it shot a flame out of the top the bottle like 7 inches like a blow torch... not very hot though. so a Hydraulic leak... and a flame.

Where under the hood did the flames come from?

dunno. but there was a huge hole in the windshield right above the wiper motor. so im guessing the passenger side mostly. the hydrolic lines run across to that side, so that could be it...

i think it might be that hydraulic fluid

the heat of the engine would set it off rather quickly if it leaked, espcially if it touched hot metal like headers, but for it go 4 feet that would need something besides hydraulic fluid alone i think

maybe it was a combination of things

hydra fluid leaks small flame not seen, melts something gas sprays out, and boom fire
you said there is a hole in the windshield that must've been a pretty hot flame to do that

Re: injectors

Nissan Injectors used during certain cars in the 80s and early 90s were faulty, and caused leaks. Check your VIN number for a recall. My Z31 300zx burst into flames because of the injectors. As well as others did if there was no recall done. There are many ways your car can burst into flames....and injector fire is usually a good portion of the situation.
