Angry This is BS

ok, I take my computer to get the cases switched since I got a new case. I myself didn't think I was capable of it because I didn't know where the wires and stuff were. So I took it to the place I bought the case from and got it switched.

He asked me to leave it for a hour I come back he said it all works fine. I say cool and leave. I get home, the sound don't work, so I'm like wtf? I take it back the next day and one of his technictions (sp?) looks at it and updates the drivers and still didn't get it working. So today I take it back again and have the main guy look at it. Tells me to leave it again so I did. Come back "Oh well I have no idea" and I said "well it was working before I took it to you, If I buy a new sound card will that resolve my problems?" he said "yep".

So I just got back from walmart with a new sound card, Install it.. guess what, NO FUCKING SOUND STILL.. im really gettin fucking pissed off here because when I fucking took it to him the sound worked.

Anyone got any ideas or suggestions, I'm ready to tell him to take his case and shove it up his ass.

Re: This is BS

Are your speakers plugged in?

J/k

Uninstall the sound card drivers and reinstall them. That may work. Make sure the sound card is properly connected to the mother board (in the slot, nice and tight). Make sure all wires from the sound card are connected, if any wires are present. Thats all I can think of.

Re: This is BS

I used to work for a repair shop. Those people don't know their head from their ass.

First off, he only said that so you'd spend money on a new card. I know how those places push sales - I used to work for one.

Second, open the case up, remove the card, and push it back in. Re-seating the card can make a difference. It may not be pushed in all the way. Make sure any audio connectors your card uses are hooked up properly (analog/digital audio cables from your optical drives and the like). Also make sure your speakers are connected to the right jacks.

Third, uninstall and reinstall the audio card drivers. Then be sure your speaker settings in Windows are set up for the correct speaker configuration. Check your volume control as well and make sure nothing is muted by accident.

See if that helps any. If not, either the PCI slot is bad (try the audio card on a different PCI slot and see if you get the same results) or the audio card may be defective.

Re: This is BS

well the stock sound is On-Board. I've tried reinstalling drivers. He claims all the wires are hooked up right. I didn't buy the card there.. Bought it at walmart .

A friend of mine said because I had front audio jacks on my old case and their not hooked up on this one that it might "think" its putting sound to the headphones and muting all other devices and even the newly installed sound card.

I'm taking this computer back tomarrow and forcing him to reinstall it in my old case, if it works. He's taking back this case and giving me money back.

Re: This is BS

this is not a joke. reinstall windows. :-) and make sure everything is turned on in the BIOS as far as the sound goes (if you're using the onboard sound)

Re: This is BS

If the original sound is onboard and it had front audio jacks, then you're faced with three options:

1) Use the onboard sound. Remove and uninstall the new audio card. Make sure the onboard sound in BIOS is enabled. If the jacks are in the front, make sure they're accessible to connect your speakers since there's nowhere else to connect them. The headphone jack on your CD-ROM doesn't count. j/k

2) Use the new audio card. Leave the original audio drivers for the onboard sound installed, and disable the onboard audio in the BIOS and in Windows. This will allow the new card to be the "primary" and will be the only one Windows uses. This also prevents unknown devices and conflicts since the onboard drivers still have to be installed. Connect the speakers to the jacks on the back of the case to the new audio card.

3) Reinstall Windows and try one of the two options above.

Of course, you're going with option 4 and having them put it back the way it was. Let us know what happens.

Re: This is BS

i got it working, I took it back and told him since there was front audio plugs before, and they're not hooked up now. The computer is telling itself its puting the output to the front audio plugs and muting everything else. He put jumpers on it and it works fine.

Thanks for the ideas guys.
