95 Grand AM SE 3.1L - NO HEAT
I recently replaced my heater core but still have no heat in the car - Here is some background information:
When I purchased my vehicle in the summertime I knew that the heater core needed to be replaced. After pricing the labor at the dealer and the part at the local auto store I decided that this was a job I would do myself. Shortly after buying the car, the radiator sprang a leak - I replaced it with a new radiator; the water pump then failed - again I replaced; then the serpentine belt snapped on me so I replaced it as well (all within 2 months). Finally i undertook the job of replacing the heater core (quite extensive and probably worth the amount the dealer would charge). Still no heat. As a last resort, I replaced the thermostat figuring it was the last component left in the cooling system and still have no heat. Since replacing the thermostat, I have also flushed all the coolant and refilled the system with fresh coolant and now get the low coolant light. From reading the experiences of others on this site, I will try the old screwdriver tap trick to get rid of that ANY IDEAS ON GETTING THE HEAT FLOWING????? |

You could try disconecting the hoses from the new heater core, see if coolant is passing through the lines from the motor.
Could be a blockage of some sort. |

I have tried that, and coolant pours from both hoses and both tubes of the heater core. Any other ideas?

How about the temp. gauge ? What does it read ?

The temp gauge reads in the "normal" operating range. I can tell when the cooling fan kicks in as the temp guage reading will lower slightly. I also forgot to mention that I have also replaced the cooling fan relay switch (Acutally did this prior to replacing the radiator)

Sounds like you have taken care of everything on the engine side. I assume the air has been purged.
Absolutly no heat when you turn on the interior fan? Perhaps the dampers and associated controls are to blame? |
