Dogs really are mans best friend.

Im currently stuck up here at my dads because of surgery after surgery and ive been really bummed out for a while because of it. I havent really been able to get out and there arent many people around here my age to meet. So its just been me and my 8 month old bulldog/hound mix Maggie hanging out for a while. The folks went out of town like they always do after christmas and since ive been bummed out i decided to get really drunk so i got wasted and then decided to take a couple ambien because it seemed like a good idea at the time. Needless to say a little while later i was completely out of it and as i was walking towards my bedroom i tripped over one of my dogs toy and hit my head and blacked out for a few minutes. I woke up to my dog licking me and then she bit onto my shirt and kept trying to pull me towards the couch until i climbed on it. I woke up this morning with her sleeping curled up by my feet staring at me. After I took her outside this morning she slept like 6 hours straight and she NEVER does that. So i think she might have stayed up or i could just be crazy to think a dog would do that. Just figured id share my little story about the greatest animal in the world. And dont ever think that animals are just stupid little creatures that walk around biting things.

Re: Dogs really are mans best friend.

you're not stupid. my dogs do the same. They can tell when I'm sick and they stay especially close when I am. I have 3, baby, Jessie and Logan and usually they stay close to me but when they think something is wrong they stay even closer. When I get up in the middle of the night all 3 of them get up and come with me wherever I go, be it the kitchen to drink some tea or the couch to go back to sleep, they are there right with me. Some people's dogs arent like that but all of my dogs, I've had 4 total, have been like that.

Same here. I have 4 dogs (I know I'm crazy) and they are all very very loyal, know when I'm down, sick, etc. Lestat (a black lab mix) is always within like 10ft of me when I'm at home and when I'm sick he stays even closer. When my husband is gone he's extremely protective, he'll flip if someone even comes to the door and he doesn't know them, etc. All 4 of them are great dogs, but Lestat as far as being protective and so in tune definitely stands out.

Re: Dogs really are mans best friend.

Thats one reason why i wanted to get a dog, i was living with my girlfriend and i worked a lot of nights and i was out of town a lot so i wanted a dog who would "protect" her, this dog was about 5 months old and weighed about 25lbs and the mail man came to the door and i have NEVER EVER heard a dog bark that deep and mean. Youd have to know my dog to understand, shes a complete goof ball and she barks like a wuss, unless theres someone she doesnt like.

my dog is like that. He doesn't look likea dog to fuck with to begin with. He's 85lbs now and not an ounce of fat on him, black lab/pit bull mix. And he is the biggest sweetheart. My husband did not believe how aggressive he can get. So one night he goes in the guest room, puts on a baseball hat, wraps a blanket around himself, puts on some sunglasses and comes out and in an old lady like voice he said something, I had to hold Lestat back from attacking him. The two chihuahuas tried to attack him too! It was hilarious. But Lestat was baring teeth, snarling, barking, etc. He was flipping. My husband was like holy shit, he had no idea that Lestat can be that way.

But you'd never expect that from a dog that cuddles with chihuahuas, likes to wear sweaters and hyperventilates in cars because he's afraid of car rides.

Yep, dogs are amazing that's all there is to it. They know when you're sick or hurt, and hang out especially close.

Re: Dogs really are mans best friend.

Had a lab/pointer mix when the kids were young, she was a complete sweetheart, kids could do anything they wanted to her but when the kids were outside and someone came around, she would be between them and the kids, always

Re: Dogs really are mans best friend.

my mom had problems with her blood pressure that would cause her to blackout occasionally. my golden retriever used to kinda whine and paw at her before she'd have a blackout. it kinda let her know to get somewhere she could sit down and get ready for it. it was pretty amazing to see how intune a dog can be with their owner. For a dog to be with you after you've gotten sick is one thing but he could tell before it happened, it was amazing.

Re: Dogs really are mans best friend.

My dog was like that too, he got him when he was about 8 months old. Two days after we got him I got sick and he wouldnt leave my side, if i went into the bathroom he would sit at the door pawing at it franitcally trying to get it. If I tried to put him in his kennel for the night he would whine and bark until he could see me, yet when I wasnt sick he would go in and spend the night just fine. When i was pissed off he wouldnt let anyone near me, it was like he knew I wanted to be left alone, everytime someone aproched me he would get between me and them and stand there until they left. That dog was so protective, every time a stranger approched me he would act all suspisious until I said "friend" then it would immediatly sit down and offer a paw. I remember one time I was babysitting 3 kids and the youngest one, about 14 months old started crawling away from me and the dog bit the kids shirt, picked her up and carried her back to me and set her down gentally. That was such a great dog.
