Radio, on or not?...Also Fan Relay

Wife calls and says,"radio is not playing, but clock works and I smell something electrical". Merry Christmas to me. So when she gets home I check the fuses, all good. Here is the strange part the clock works and when I turn the power on the radio all the speakers "crack" at once.

Problem II. AC, Heater fan works when it fells like it. I can here the relay click when I move the switch, but no fan. Then maybe the next day or an hour later it works.

When you put the hood up on your van.. Locate the
3 relays directly to the upper left side of the engine
bay. The middle one is the culprit. Remove it and
replace it...or tap it lightly with the handle of a
screwdriver...

Changed relay, twice, still have same problem. How about this: To the right of the relay is a round "whatever" w/ a vacuum tube on the top. It is leaking antifreeze out the bottom. What is that thing? I was thinking that this would not let heat in until the engine was warm.

Also put a "fine" junkyard delco in and the radio works fine. Strange since the old one was getting power. Now I'm styling w/ this sweet tape deck.....Not

Got no clue on problem 1, but I had the same issue with my Astro on the heater fan. Turn on the heat/AC and then check for 12V going to the actual fan (Pull the plug connecter off the fan and measure with a multimeter or 12V test light. If you have voltage there, then the fan is bad. If you do not, try different speed settings (If it works on one, but not the others, you either have a bad resistance block (Its on the top of the black box next to the A/C accumulator) or a bad switch.

Note: I have found that the conector to the motor sometimes doesn't seat real well either. Try to re-seat it before replacing the blower motor.

Good luck!

I had the same problem with my radio, you probably have a shorted speaker or wire. You need to unplug the speaker connector from the back of the radio and use an ohm meter across the speaker pairs. A good reading will be around 4 to 8 ohms.I traced mine to the rear door speaker on the passenger side, then I unplugged it, Problem solved! Hope it works for you.
