cam timing

iv heard a lot about cam timing but im not sure quite what it is. i know how to do it on my car(i think) but to what degree and what gains should i expect as well as what down sides might there be?

cam timing is what controls the opening and closing of valves. there are two ways to control the valve timing, new cams or adjusting the timing gears, or both. ether way this is staring to past simple bolt-ons.

you can buy new cams specially shaped with different lobe profiles to allow the valves to open or close at different times, or longer or shorter periods of times. changing the torque curve MASSIVELY

to adjust cam timing you would need to buy adjustible cam gears, then tune on a dyno. the cam timing sets the placement of the torque curve, so you can focus the torque curve to what you need, more torque? more HP? low end? top end? any gains would depend on other mods, the cam shape/arrangement, and how well the engine is tuned.

Where do you get that figure from. Tell me how do you advance your intake and retard your exhaust on a single cam engine.

The best advice is to explain to the cam grinder what you have, and what you intend on doing and follow his advice

Simple, break the camshaft into multiple pieces.

But why one would retard exhaust and advance intake in that scenerio is a bit strange anyway.
