I've got a 1990 olds 88, but there cant be many differences. On mine, the speakers are in their own little boxes that are accessible from the trunk. GM was even nice enough to put little bolt gripper thingys (so descriptive ) and to have a cable disconnecter to allow for easy replacement.

I'd definately try to go in from the trunk...

good luck

Thanks Alibi, seems someone yanked out the wire totally from the left rear speaker where it actually goes into the speaker, I do have the dis-connect fitting, but was thinking of just wiring the two bare wires to an after market speaker, gotta get a flashlight to rout around in there to see what is actually going on, lol. Though nice sounding setup with AM/FM , CD, and Cassete, just set the security code for the theft-lock !

Bare wire and electrical tape should work fine

I've only gotten as far as removing my speakers since they're all pretty much rotted from dis-use...but i'm too poor to get new ones at the moment

Re: Replace rear 6X9 speaker ?

just so you know measure the speakers you take out before you go and buy new ones, on my 96 88 where the speaker goes, it measures just short of 9" and the 6x9's i was putting in measured exactly 9" so needless to say i had a lot of fun shaving pieces of the speaker surrounding off to make it fit.
