97 GTR Pics from Sebring

These pics are long overdue. And what better time to share them than during the holidays.

My introductin to the McLaren GTR was like watching a Great White Shark surfacing with its dorsal fin cutting through the crowds.

Click for larger pics.

Here are the pics from the paddock:

These are a couple of shots of the #8 Fina car on fire. I had just put the camera down after shooting a 12 frame burst. At first I had thought that his brakes were glowing, until I saw the car glowing from underneath. I barely managed to get the camera back up to shoot. So the blurriness is in the actual photo (me forcing the camera to click off a bursts vs. focusing). For those that don't remember or hadn't read, an oil line ruptured putting an end to Lehto's/Soper's chance at locking down the Driver's Championship. Lehto literally climbed onto the car ripping panels off the car and grabbing a fire extuingisher from a corner worker to try unsuccessfully to put the fire out.

The car that he drove the following weekend at Laguna Seca was pieced together from a car sitting in a museum in Japan.

I'll second Mike's motion and say thanks for the post. It's good to see that there are still those photos laying around that we have not seen. Thanks again for sharing and posting the pics.

1998 was a great year for FIA GT. great cars like CLK-GTR, 911 GT1 and ofcourse McLaren F1

But these glorious automobiles seem to come back.

Look at the grid next year!

Murcielago R-GT, Aston DBR9, Maser MC12, Ferrari 575 GTC,... cool!

Thumbs up great fire shots..

Compliments of the season to everyone on the Board!!

Agree with someone elses comment elsewhere in a recent thread - how great it is when fresh shots appear!!

The fire shots are superb, especially considering ArchangelGTR had just finished a burst...
