? anyone ever changed oil pan ?
I need to drop my oil pan and replace the gasket. I have a 95 (s14) just curious how much of a bitch it is, I never end up with the easy tasks, and haven't felt like crawling under the car in the weather we have been having lately. Is it just like 8 bolts and bam it's off or do you have to pull cross members or anything first to pull the pan? Please reply so maybe I'll get up the motivation to drop the damn pan. That is the problem if a car is not your daily driver it's easy to put stuff off.

Re: ? anyone ever changed oil pan ?
Before applying the new gasket, you will have to scrape off the old gasket entirely, which can be a bitch. Expect to be under there a little while.

Re: ? anyone ever changed oil pan ?
Don't use a gasket. Just use silicone sealant(the messy shit). You will need something to hold the engine up or support it from the bottom because you need to drop the crossmember. You can try and wiggle it out with the crossmember on but it's gonna be hell getting it back in whether you use sealant or a gasket. I believe it was like eleven bolts or so? IDK. I pulled the engine and did my oil return so you know it was pretty easy for me. I found out about the gasket thing afterwards too so that sucks. No leaks though. Use a floor jack and support the engine by the transmission or use a hoist and support the engine by the top. I would use the hoist. Should be like a 1-2 hour job, maybe less if you git 'r' done.
