you should of seen the look on their faces when I pulled next to them and let my TE-63 build about 12 PSI then sputter a bit... It was priceless

i was goin to say, you should've let the blow off valve do the talking. however from what you say that you let the turbo sputter, i'm assuming you don't have one in your car.
