99 Jimmy: Whirring noise in the dash?
Just started hearing a funny whirring noise in the dash. It only happens when i pull away from a stop. Very weird. I just bought this truck and considering in the first 48 hours of me owning it, I had to replace the battery and alternator, now gas gauge is screwed, leaking something near left rear tire, and now this whirring noise....i dont think I will ever buy GMC again...junk!

Re: 99 Jimmy: Whirring noise in the dash?
Sounds like you have a few problems on your hands. As for the noise in your dash, I would think that it is air trapped in your heater core. Make sure your antifreeze level is up and top it off with DEXCOOL only if it hasn't been converted to green. Make sure the cap is good also. As for replacing a battery and alternator that doesn't sound that uncommon for a 6 year old vehicle. Make sure its not leaking antifreeze also. Good Luck

Does where you bought it not provide any sort of assurance of the vehicle? 48hours in and you are already into it for a battery and alternator? Or did you buy it as is? As far as that noise you are hearing it is your heater core and air in the system. Given that your vehicle is a 99, if the coolant has never been flushed, your core is clogging up. It will need to be backflushed to clear out the crud. Do a search on Dexcool and problems with air getting into the system from the rad cap. It was a live thread in the blazer forum a few days back. I
Regarding your gas guage, if "screwed" means it is acting erratic, it is your sending unit and the tank must be dropped. I had mine replaced recently on my Blazer under a hidden warranty. |
