I have a 2000 4 cly. and i want to replace my PCV valve because i think I have a vacuum problem and I hear a hissing, but my valve is threaded into the valve cover and I can't find any reference anywhere to threaded PCV's on tacomas. Also, I wanted to test the vacuum on the line, so I pulled the hose off the PCV while the engine was running and it stalled. It shouldn't stall, should it? That's how you're supposed to test it right? Someone help!

Re: ??Threaded PCV Valve??? What the F---!
If you remove a hose from a PCV when the engine is running it will ususlly stall the engine. You need to remove the PVC from the engine with hose attached and test for a vacuum through the PCV. My truck is a 2004 and PCV is not mentioned in the maintenance guide, I see nothing on the valve cover that resembles a PVC. Some vehicles don't use a PVC but have an orfice that restricts vacuum flow through the crankcase ventilation system.

Re: ??Threaded PCV Valve??? What the F---!
so are you saying that i may not have a replaceable PCV valve? In the Hanes manual for my model year, there is a photo that points to the pcv exactly where this threaded orifice is located on my truck. i also bought a PCV for my truck at Advance before i looked at mine, so they do exist. I'm confused. and wondering if this may be a modification done by the previous owner, in which case, it sucks. anyone else encounter this problem?

Re: ??Threaded PCV Valve??? What the F---!
OK, I looked at my truck again and on the rear of the valve cover I see what does look to be a PCV valve, it is screwed in and is not a previous owner modification, I bought the truck new. I looked through my Toyota maintenance log listing the checks the dealer is supposed perform when a vehicle is taken in for service and I still cannot find any reference to servicing or replacing a PCV. I have bought lots of parts from Advance and thier information and replacement parts are not always correct. As I said in my first post, pulling the hose from the PCV will probably stall the engine as the PCV has a restriction built in it and pulling the hose from the PCV causes a big inlet vacuum leak. At least with a screw in PCV you don't have to worry about a gommet which usually hardens with age and will need replacing when the PCV is replaced. My truck is a 2004 and Haynes stops at 2000, I expect to buy a shop manual later.
