Computer code 12

I have a problem with an 88 Caravan 3.0 EFI. This just recently started. At times I smell gas and when stopping engine stalls, usually starts back up. At times when I stop the idle is way high, like 1600 and when I shifted into neutraL it went up to 3000. I tapped the gas a few times and sometimes it starts going back down to normal. This seems to be more often now and so, I read the computer codes and what I got was 12: computer or battery recently disconnected? Well, I have never disconnected the battery or computer. I did have 2 fuses blown for the taillights and flasher awhile ago(this was my fault, a bare wire for the trailer hitch had got grounded) Also, a few weeks ago I had to jump the van becuase I left the lights on and battery went dead? My question then is, since there were no other codes, it just flashed the 12 and then 55 end, does this mean the computer needs reset or is there likely some other problem? And, how do you reset the computer? Thanks !

Re: Computer code 12

The code 12 is informational only - it is not an indication of a problem.

Computer codes will age out in 50-55 ignition starts. To reset them, just turn the ignition key on-off (don't start the car) 55 times.
