Question Filling the gas tank takes forever!!

The last couple of weeks I have been having problems filling the last quarter of the tank, basically have to trickle it in and freezing my ass off. Is there anything I can do? Thanks

Re: Filling the gas tank takes forever!!

yes there is... This happened to me at certain gas stations in my 98 GT that i had. It would piss me off to all hell. Basically what i concluded from my 5 minutes of sherlock holmes research was that some of the gas station i was going to had a weird curve in the actually fuel pump nozzle. So when i had it pumpin automatically, i think it would actually stop pumpin becuase the level of gas in the tank reached the nozzle because of the way it went into the tank, when in reality there was still about 1/4 of my tank that needed to be filled, as you mentioned. Weird that you bring this up, i figured it was something specifically related to my GT. I found out that i would have to trickle it to, but hey juss pull the nozzle out almost all the way and then try, that worked for me, also if you have a regular fuel station you go to, try changing, i know that a few of em would always give me trouble, it was weird, eventually it never ever did it again, juss happened very often for about a month?? maybe someone else knows more about this, but i doubt it becuase im assuming its not to common. Have you tried a different filling station? I've noticed that at some stations the pumps shut off repeatedly, while others don't shut off till it's full.

Normally it needs a little air going into the neck. Pull the hose back a little. Works for me. blurr, shut up.

This might help also, there is a breather tube that is connected to the upper part of the neck and it will somtimes get some gas in it and not let the gas flow very fast into the tank.Pull the hose off and force some air into it so it will push the fuel back into the tank and it should work fine after that.

No, I just didn't want to hear what you had to say when I said "pull the hose out". I know you.

Thanks for the responses, I will check for the hose in the neck once it thaws out a little. Its been -30 for two days straight and my ass isn't the only part thats frozen.

I did try different stations with no luck, I tried different angles and the only way to fill it was with the nozzle out about a half inch from the neck, just like pissing against the wind at 30 below zero.

Have a great day fellas!!
