Ignition Trouble
Hi, I have a 1989 CRX Si. The car has been great until recently. A few months ago the tach stopped working. I figured it wasn't a big. Then, the check engine light would come on while I was driving it, but it would not stall. Shortly after that, it started to "chug." What I mean is, when you would push the accelerator, power would come in spurts.
So, I changed the ignitor, and the car ran great for a couple of weeks. Although the tach remained working, the chgging started again, this time accompanied by random stalling and not starting. I changed the main relay, and it worked great again...for three weeks. Now, no more chugging, but it wouldn't start occasionally.
If I wiggled the key back and forth, I could find a "sweet spot" where it would start. In addition, I could always hear the fuel pump start. Then the other day I am driving home, and it dies while driving. No more sweet spot, and I have to tow it home. Now when i turn the key, there is nothing.
I have a scanner (like an LED light) on the dash that is hooked into the ignition. When the key is off or in position 1 (accesory) the light is on. It is off when running and in position 2. Now, it just remains on all the time, and nothing works but the heater. No wipers, no radio, no anything.
This wiggling the key to find a spot where it would start leads me to beleive it is something in the ignition. Any help anybody has would be awesome, and thanks to you. This seems to be a very difficult and costly problem to solve. Thanks.
Kris
