Question 1994 Oldsmobile 98-Fuel Pump

A couple of months ago, I brought a 94 Oldsmobile 98. Love the car, beautiful on the inside and outside. Brought it at an auction. Title shows it was at CarMax twice. Engine sounds great, car passed inspection.

Last week the car broke down on me. Digital display read AC Hot Disabled. Weeks before the Low Coolant light kept coming on even when it had coolant in it!! Car had hesitation on acceleration, speedometer's digital display would jump violently between numbers in the 50-60 mph range. Friday 12/10/04 I had it towed to a repair shop. Mechanic called me yesterday with an estimate of $599.95. Fuel pump needed to be replaced. How much is a fuel pump for this type of car and how much labor is involved?

I dont want to get ripped off!!!

100 is what it costs for a new pump.

You most likely need the strainer and sender unit, another 50 or so usually.

You have to drop the tank though, that will take several hours.

Usually 150-180 for the parts and another 2 or 3, possibly more hours in labor.
