Question A/C Fan burned out.

I have a 1987 Astro. I've replaced the fan switch a couple of times over the years. Recently, however, I smelled electrical burning for a moment a couple of times over period of several days - just whiff - not enough to figure out where it was coming from. Now my fan unit will not come on at all. I don't think it is the switch again, but maybe the fan itself (is there a simple way to tell?).

Where exactly is the a/c fan and how do I get access to it? What I thought was the fan unit under the hood looks like it houses the a/c coolant grill work.

Fan is to the left side of engine bay. Round box w/ a power and ground wire. Disconnect the wires and run wires right from the battery. If the fan is good it will come on. If not u have electrical problem. Shut hood, drive van, pretend u never heard of ac.
